High Speed Rail Stage 1 offers high-speed rail services connecting Newcastle to Canberra via Sydney's Central Business District.

Designed as a response to Sydney's land use and affordability challenges. Operating at speeds over 300km/h, the services open up regional NSW, enabling a re-balancing of settlement and the mitigation of the negative effects of Sydney's population growth.

Utilise high-speed rail to enable a fourth and fifth city for Greater Sydney.

High Speed Rail Stage 1 provides what will be necessary for the new communities to thrive, including: public and private hospitals, public and private schools, libraries; sporting facilities, parks (and other open spaces), emergency services facilities, and sites for cultural facilities.

The proposed high-speed rail services will shift at least 30 million car trips from the Ml and M31 each year. In linking Sydney's south west to Canberra in under an hour, 5+ million three hour car trips with their fatigue and impact on productivity will no longer occur. The 11 minute journey from Gosford to Chatswood makes redundant 25+ million more car trips that are longer than most anyone would seek to make on a regular basis.
